UKHRUL: At the hills of Pukhao Naharup Chingphei in Imphal East, suspected armed Kuki groups allegedly opened fire on villagers who had gone to collect firewood on Friday morning.

According to reports, the villagers were accompanied by personnel from State and Central forces, including Sagolmang Police, CRPF and Manipur Rifles. However, as work progressed, armed assailants positioned approximately 500 metres away reportedly fired more than 10 rounds towards the villagers at around 9:30 a.m.

Panic-stricken, the villagers immediately climbed down and fled to safety. In a concerning development, villagers further alleged that the security personnel present at the site retreated ahead of them without returning fire.
