Indian Army’s Mega Medical Camp, Benefits Hundreds

BISHNUPUR: On the second day of the ongoing Integrated Mega Medical Camp, the Indian Army extended its large-scale medical outreach to Moirang and Ningthoukhong, providing much-needed healthcare services to residents in the region. A total of 907 patients were treated at both the locations.

The camp, conducted under the supervision of the 59 Mountain Brigade, witnessed the participation of specialist doctors from Maharashtra, offering services that are otherwise largely accessible only in Imphal.

Several serious cases were diagnosed during the camp, including ascites related to hepatitis, early-onset Parkinson’s disease, and patients suffering from stroke and other cerebrovascular conditions. These cases have been referred for further medical evaluation and treatment.

Patients highlighted persistent challenges in accessing healthcare, citing inadequate facilities at the district hospital and financial constraints as major barriers. Many also pointed to the irregular availability of doctors, who reportedly visit on alternate days, making it difficult to receive timely and continuous care.

The camp was visited by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pooja Elangbam and the local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), both of whom appreciated the initiative undertaken by the Army. The DC assured that the district administration, in coordination with the Chief Medical Officer, is working to strengthen healthcare delivery. She stated that doctors are now visiting relief camps twice a week, while services at district hospitals, Community Health Centres (CHCs), and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) remain operational.

She further noted that eligible patients can avail benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, depending on their eligibility under the scheme.

Describing the initiative as a “wonderful effort,” officials expressed gratitude to the 59 Mountain Brigade under the leadership of Brigadier Sachin for organising the camp. The presence of specialist doctors from outside the state has significantly improved access to quality healthcare for local residents, many of whom would otherwise have to travel long distances for similar treatment.

Locals expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Indian Army for bringing advanced medical care closer to their homes, calling it a timely and much-needed intervention for the community.
