AMIDST internal dissensions and the ongoing tussle over leadership and the signing of the “Agreed Position” within the NSCN Unification group, a new jolt has emerged within the NSCN-IM. For a long time, Indian government agencies and certain Naga leaders had anticipated cracks within the NSCN-IM setup—and this seems to have materialised with the recent exit of Ikato Chishi Swu and a few others.
Media platforms like NE Live have disproportionately highlighted this development, portraying Ikato’s departure as if it signals the downfall of the NSCN-IM. Such exaggerated focus only adds to the drama, serving the interests of those waiting to exploit internal divisions.
As always, Indian agencies are likely to applaud and take advantage of any internal disunity among the Nagas. In moments like these, it is crucial for the Naga public to remain calm and refrain from taking sides or sharing divisive commentary. Doing so only emboldens individuals or factions who thrive on fragmentation. Instead, we must encourage tolerance, mutual respect, and a spirit of unity among all.
Only through collective effort and a united front can we hope to achieve a meaningful and honorable political settlement, which remains the only way to secure a dignified future for our people.
