With 11 fresh Covid-19 cases reported on Saturday, active cases in Manipur at 101

The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Manipur has once again crossed 100-mark on Saturday after 11 more fresh cases of the disease were reported against one recovery in the past 24 hours.

With a gradual downward trend in the daily spike since November last year, the active cases of the disease in the state had even declined to single digits in February and March. However, with a gradual surge in the daily spike in the last few days, the number of active cases are also increasing.

State health department, in its daily update report, showed an increase of 11 positive cases in the state in the past 24 hours, taking the overall infection tally to 29,486 on Saturday.

The 11 fresh cases pushed the active cases to 101. The recovery tally also rose to 29,010 recoveries, adding one cured case discharged on Saturday. 

The health department update showed that of the 11 fresh cases, one is a personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and of the 10 cases from the general population, four were air passengers who arrived at Imphal airport on Saturday.

Including the four fresh cases of COVID-19, 50 out of 2,829 air passengers tested were diagnosed with the viral disease. A total of 119 air passengers were tested on Saturday.

Of the 10 fresh cases from the general populace, five were from Imphal West, two from Imphal East and one each from Kamjong, Chandel and Kangpokpi, the Health department said.

Meanwhile, in the continuing vaccination drive, 1,200 more people were inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine in the state on Friday. The total number of people vaccinated in the state reached 92,472. Among them 31,931 were healthcare workers, the Health department added.
