Woman shot dead in Imphal’s Kwakeithel Leikai by gunmen

Imphal: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a middle aged woman at Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi Mamang Leikai in Imphal West District on Thursday morning.

The incident reportedly took place at around 8:30 AM near Shishu Niketan school in Kwakeithel.

Imphal West District Police team led by top officers and a team of Forensic Science rushed to the site for inquest.

The team recovered some documents from the deceased woman. Police has registered a case and deposited the body to RIMS Morgue.

The incident which took place close by the school created panic among the locals.

According to reports, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), in a press release said the deceased identified as Donngaiching was a mentally ill person who did not leave Imphal despite the ethnic violence. “The victim, Donngaiching, was killed by Meitei gunmen near Shishu Niketan school in Kwakeithel. She used to spend her days walking aimlessly and lived in a small shed near a church in Lamphel area,” the ITLF press release said.
