Zenith Sangma visits South West Garo Hills flooded areas

With incessant rain lashing areas under South West Garo Hills overnight has submerged many houses and people are being provided shelters in schools.

The deluge which started on Wednesday night and continued till Thursday morning has affected 18 villages under Rerapara Block in the district and relief is being provided for those affected by the flash flood.

Briefing the reporters in one of the flooded villages, Congress leader, Zenith Sangma said that Sankarigre Village with 100 households is covered by rain water due to the long spell of showers. “So almost all the households have been submerged and the people have been displaced from their houses and most of them are just staying along the road side, cooking and eating there itself,” he said. 

“We have contacted the district administration to do all the necessary relief operations,” informed the legislator.

He also stressed on the water supply to the affected villages and has asked the PHE department to send tankers till the flood water level recedes.
