Imphal, July 27: A large number of people, mostly womenfolk under the banner of “My Manipur” converged at the Western Gate of the Kangla Fort in Imphal this afternoon and staged a sit-in-protest against the “provocative remarks of Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga” on the prevailing problem in Manipur.
The protesters displayed placards which read “Mizoram chief minister down down”, “Mizoram chief minister should not interfere in Manipur issues”, “Save territorial integrity of Manipur”, “No separate administration”, “Save Manipur from armed Kuki immigrant militants of Myanmar”, etc.

Around 2.30 pm, the protesters took out an effigy of Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga for torching. However, the police on close alert on the activities of the protesters immediately rushed and snatched the effigy after a brief tussle.
The police action was strongly decried by the protesters who accused the Mizoram chief minister of making provocative remarks against Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh while interfering in the internal affairs of Manipur.

Spokesperson of ‘My Manipur’, Salainganbi, while talking to reporters on the sideline of the protest, said that they tried to burnt the effigy of the Mizoram chief minister only to show their resentment against his “unparliamentary remarks against the Manipur chief minister and also in protest against his interference into the internal affairs of Manipur”.
She said the Mizoram chief minister has no right to interfere in the internal affairs of his neighboring state. “He must refrain from interfering into the internal matters of other states,” she added.
Like in his state Mizoram, Manipur has also its own government to run its administration. Zoramthanga should not cross the line, she asserted.

The protestor also alleged that Zoramthanga spewed venom in the region, popularly known as ‘seven sisters’, to disintegrate unity among the seven states of the region, the spokesperson added.
Further, the protestors demanded immediate implementation of NRC in Manipur, drive out illegal immigrants and end narco-terrorists in the region.
Even as the police foiled the bid to torch the effigy at the Western Gate of Kangla, protesters burnt the effigy of the Zoramthanga in many other places of the state, registering a strong protest against his “provocative remarks” against the Manipur chief minister and his alleged interference in the internal affairs of the neighboring state.
