As many as 15 new positive cases of Covid-19 were detected in Ukhrul district on Friday, according to a source from the district surveillance office.

It said that while 12 cases were detected from Langdang village containment zone, three from Bakshi ground testing centre at Dungrei.

A total of 89 primary contacts from Langdang village containment zone went through rapid antigen test (RAT) on Friday during which reports of 12 emerged positive for the virus, the source said.

However, details of the three persons who tested positive for the virus from the testing centre, could not be established from the source.

Langdang village was brought under containment zone on 21 September two days after two residents of the village contracted the virus from an Imphal returnee on 19 September.

The Imphal returnee, who also hailed from the same village, is reportedly staying at 7th Finance Commission Quarter in Ukhrul town. An order of the district administration brought the patient’s residential house under containment zone on 19 September.

Another order of the district administration which declared the village a containment zone, had earlier directed the entire residents of the village to completely refrain from moving out of their home and to remain in isolation under home quarantine with immediate effect and until further orders.

Meanwhile, on 24 September, a residential house at Meizailung in Ukhrul town was also declared a containment zone following detection of a positive case the same day.
All the patients have been reportedly shifted to the district’s Covid care centre.
