1st Phungrei Chungrungwon Football League Concludes in Ngahui Village

Ukhrul, Dec 20: The 1st Phungrei Chungrungwon Football League which was held from December 12, 2023 in Ngahui Village concluded on Wednesday. The closing ceremony was graced by Ukhrul district deputy commissioner Zuringla Kengoo.

DFO Ukhrul, Shanngam Shaliwo graced the opening ceremony of the football league as the chief guest, while Tangkhul Katamnao Long president Ramreichan Keishing was the guest of hounour. Major Devendra Singh of Ngahui Village Assam Rifles post was among the Special invitees for the closing ceremony.

The final match saw a spirited match between Rinmi FC and Kahor FC at Ngahui Village playground. With a score of two goals, Kahor FC emerged as the 1st Phungrei Chungrungwon Football League champions defeating Rinmi FC who managed to stack up just one goal. The winning team walked away with a cash prize of Rs 27,000 with the league trophy and certificates. The first runner-up was awarded Rs 15,000 along with certificates.

The football league this year comprised of six teams, namely, Ramchan FC, Rinmi FC, Ringlui FC, Kahor FC, 2nd Joy Thot FC and Gaharlong, from various age groups of the village.

The Best Player was adjusted to Chanshim Hungphunwoshi of Rinmi FC; Top Scorer went to two players, Worthing Kasomwoshi of Rinmi FC with 7 goals and Mayonsing Khongreiwo of Ramchan FC with 7 goals respectively; Ningtharso Kasomwoshi from Kahor FC won the Best Goalkeeper.

The 1st Phungrei Chungrungwon Football League is organized by the Phungrei Chungrunwon Society of Naghui Village with the goal to encourage and promote young talents and athletes from the village.

Phungrei Chungrunwon Society informed that it will invite clubs from other villages from the district to participate in the league in the future.

While the football league took the centre stage this year, the Society said that Ngahui Village, being one of the orchid-rich areas in the Northern part of Ukhrul district will utalise and promote the abundance of the flora in the district.

The young Phungrei Chungrunwon Society whose several members have worked outside of Manipur state in metro cities, who have now gone back to live in Ngahui Village, with new vigour, aims to shaping and helping develop the village youths, and uplift the village in general to be more tuned with the rapidly changing times.
