New Delhi, October 25: The Chothe Athourul Ngei Abom Delhi (CANAD) successfully celebrated the 1st Sabu Hong Reen Festival, a traditional thanksgiving festival for a bountiful harvest, on Saturday at Stephen Thomas Home, Civil Lines, Delhi. The event also marked the 17th Fresher’s Day under the theme “From Small Genesis to Great Things.”
The festival was graced by Eno Th. Tommy Monsang as Chief Guest and Clare Ferreira as Guest of Honour. Representatives from various units of the Naga Students’ Union Delhi (NSUD) also attended the programme.

The celebration began with the pronouncement of blessings by Pastor John Serto, followed by a welcome address from CANAD President Marim Kenneth. Cultural performances, including special songs and traditional dances by CANAD youths, added colour and vibrancy to the occasion.
An oration on the significance and history of the Sabu Hong Reen Festival was presented by Jack Yulhung, while Th. Lungyang, Women Coordinator, led the presentation session. Pastor John also conducted the introduction and blessing of the freshers.
In his keynote address, the Chief Guest emphasised the importance of preserving cultural roots and fostering unity within the community, noting that such celebrations create a sense of “home away from home.” The Guest of Honour further encouraged the youth to carry forward their cultural heritage with pride.
The first session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mk. Ringwai, General Secretary, CANAD, followed by a benediction pronounced by M. Singlen, Convener.

A highlight of the celebration was the Sabu Hong Reen Feast, featuring a sumptuous spread of indigenous Chothe cuisine. The second session continued with Lengkhawn and an annual social get-together, strengthening the spirit of fellowship among attendees.
