4th Winter Open Basketball Tournament 2021 at Ukhrul District concludes

Ukhrul: The 4th Winter Open Basketball tournament 2021, played for three consecutive days in leagues from December 16 to December 18, organized by Wilders Club at Ukhrul District concluded on Saturday

Ihao Warriors, YSB (Young State Ballers), Model Club and Lamka Ballers made it to the semi-finals in which Model Club and YSB went head to head for the finals.

Model Club won the tournament against YSB with a comfortable margin of 74-58 points in the final match.

Lamyanba Heisnam was awarded Man of the Match and Akash Meinam bagged the Top Scorer of the tournament.

At the closing ceremony, the chief guest Shanngam Shaliwo DFO mentioned that he was an alumnus of Sacred Heart Hr Sec School and he being present at the closing ceremony brought back memories of his school days. “The school has a very rich history in every aspect, be it in sports, education, or discipline,” he added.

Shanngam while encouraging the players said, “Sports involves teamwork and discipline. These two-ingredients and core objective of sports are what is really necessary for our younger generations. In every developmental project, in every aspect of our life, teamwork, coordination and discipline are a major medium to being happy and being successful. I want to wish both the teams the very best and I hope you will give your best while competing”.

A friendly match between Flawsome and Hoopsters, both women’s teams from Ukhrul district was played on the final match day.

Presentation of souvenirs and appreciation was given to the sponsors, media partners, and collaborators of the tournament.

The tournament ended with the chief guest dehoisting the flag and a vote of thanks from Wilders Club. The club also informed interested candidates in taking up basketball referee course can submit their names or contact to Wilders Club, Ukhrul.
