67th KVSA Meet 2026 Inaugurated in Kohima

KOHIMA: The 67th Kohima Village Sports Association (KVSA) Meet 2026 was inaugurated on Saturday at Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground), marking the commencement of the week-long sports meet which will continue till January 16 under the theme “Kevimerü.” The Great Indian Barbet has been designated as the official mascot for the meet.

Hosted by the Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO), the inaugural ceremony was held at 10 am and was preceded by a ceremonial torch lighting at Thevokemouzie, following which sportspersons carried the torch to the main venue.

The prelude programme was led by KVYO vice president Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome, while the invocation prayer was offered by Rev. Vichülie Kelio, Pastor, CRC Kohima Village. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, advisor, School Education & SCERT, Government of Nagaland, graced the occasion as the chief host.

KVYO president Er. Medozhazo Rutsa delivered the presidential address, while Kohima Village Head GB Medo-o Keretsü pronounced the traditional blessings. Kohima Village Council (KVC) chairman Helievio Solo also addressed the athletes.

Highlights of the inaugural ceremony included the march-past of contingents, lighting of the LXVII Cauldron, rendition of the KVSA theme song, Khel flag hoisting, veterans’ relay, and athletes’ oath-taking.

The week-long meet will feature competitions in athletics, volleyball, basketball, football, cricket, badminton, table tennis, shooting, and wrestling. Events are being conducted at Khuochiezie, Kewhimia Indoor Stadium (Ziekezou), IG Stadium (Rüleizou), Kohima Indoor Stadium, Meriema Village Ground, and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Ground.

Day 1 Events at Khuochiezie included Shot Put (Men), Javelin Throw (Women & Men), Shot Put (Women), and Discus Throw (Men & Women). 

The KVSA Meet continues to serve as a major platform for promoting sportsmanship, unity, and community spirit in Kohima.
