868 arms, 11518 ammunition recovered till date; curfew relaxation, combing operations in parts of valley and hill districts

Imphal, June 7: Security advisor to Government of Manipur, Kuldiep Singh has informed that a total of 868 arms and 11,518 ammunition have been recovered from various places till date. 57 arms, 318 ammunitions and 5 bombs were recovered from Porompat Police Station, Imphal East and Sugnu Police Station, Kakching Districts.

Kuldeep Singh informed that curfew relaxation has been further extended fro 12 hours in five valley districts, and 10 hours and 8 hours in parts of neighboring hill districts. While there is no imposition of curfew in six other hill districts, predominantly Naga, areas.

The security advisor further informed that movement of essential items along National Highway-37 is ensured. He said that 244 empty vehicles have left Imphal for Jiribam on Wednesday. A total of 212 loaded vehicles also left for Noney and 212 loaded tankers and trucks left Jiribam on Wednesday.

In another news, conduction of combing operations is being intensified in Manipur to recover weapons snatched from police and other illegal arms. A combined team under the aegis of IGAR South today carried out combing operations in the adjoining areas of Sangaithel village in Imphal West and Khoken Kuki village in Kangpokpi District. The combined team comprising 40 Indian Army personnel, 30 CRPF personnel and 20 State force personnel carried out searches from 8AM till 2PM. CRPF DIG Premjit and Manipur Police DIG Angam Kamei were part of the team. No weapons were recovered during the operation.

A combined team of Manipur police led by DIG Manipur, BSF, CRPF and Assam Rifles also conducted combing operations in areas between Serou in Kakching District and Y. Thingkanphai village in Chandel district. During the raids conducted at Thingkanphai, the security team reportedly recovered various bombs made by Kuki Militants using GI pipes and other incriminating items. The security team also destroyed a camp set up by the militants.

It may be mentioned that Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur H. Gyan Prakash has instructed District Magistrates of 6 districts to submit details of 19 Executive Magistrate for combing operations.The instruction dated June 6, came after a request by Headquarter 3 Corps for nomination of 19 executive magistrates who are required to be physically present for combing operations at Kangpokpi, Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur and Jiribam. As per the request, 4 Executive Magistrates are required for Kangpokpi, 3 for Bishnupur District, 10 each for Imphal East and Imphal West District and one each for Kakching and Jiribam District.

Meanwhile, World Meetei Council, WMC has slammed Manipur Government’s order to conduct combing operations in valley districts. WMC says the order clearly shows that the Manipur government is not fair. It takes the Meetei people for granted that they are law abiding citizens. Press note from WMC says the order also shows that the Manipur government is not bothered about the armed Chin-Kuki people who are let loose by the security forces, especially by the Assam Rifles.
