A group of multi-tasking staff and staff nurses who worked at Covid care centres opened by the Manipur government on Saturday locked down the office chamber of Manipur Health director with padlock.

The multi-tasking staff and staff nurses were demanding disbursement of their salaries pending for four months. They locked the Health director’s office chamber after he was not found in the office when they sought an appointment.

Reports said that around 100 multi-tasking staff and staff nurses who were appointed by the state Health department on contract basis at Covid care centres on Saturday turned up at the office premises of the state Health department in Imphal’s Lamphel. Even as the security guards in the office informed that the director is out of station, they forcibly entered to meet the director. When they did not find the director, they locked his office.

The protestors alleged that their salaries are not paid for four months. They also demanded extension of their service.

The Directorate of Health Services has appointed 100 multi-tasking staff (60) and staff nurses (40) on contractual posts to serve at the Covid care centres for a period of three months on a consolidated pay as fixed by the state Finance department in June 2020. With the COVID-19 situation worsened at that time, the services were extended further.

However, their salaries are not disbursed for the last four months, the protestors alleged.
