Following the unconditional release of the three arrested students leaders, ATSUM has called off the lightning hill districts total shutdown it had imposed earlier Tuesday.
The apex tribal students’ Union of Manipur and Manipur government is scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss and deliberate the long spell surfacing over non issuance of concrete ADC poll notifications.
Prior to their release, as assured by the three tribal ministers to release the during their late Tuesday deliberations, the apex tribal students Union of Manipur had decided to call off the hill districts total shutdown it had imposed.
The Manipur Government’s swift invitation came following the arrest of ATSUM Finance secretary, Rights and Information Secretary, and Information Secretary Tuesday early morning by the state police.
The open invitation signed by WRD and YAS minister, Letpao Haokip had called on the ATSUM president and general secretary for a joint meeting at his official quarter at 5:30pm in the presence of PHED minister L. Dikho and TA & Hills and Transport minister Vungjagin Valte to discuss the long pending ADC elections demands put forth by the apex tribal students’ body.
All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has been demanding the Manipur state government to fulfil the legitimate demands of the tribal populace by issuing the Autonomous District Councils (ADC) elections notification for the hill districts of Manipur indicating the official poll date.
The student body had alleged that even after holding series of deliberations over the matter, no concrete and holistic steps was forthcoming from the government side forcing them to launch intense agitations by way of picketing of government offices and mass rallies in the Hill districts of Manipur.
