Imphal: Manipur’s capital Imphal hosted the 8th edition of North East Leaders Connect, Young Leaders Connect-8, under the theme North East India 2030: Towards India’s Innovative and Sustainable Growth at the City Convention Centre on Friday.
The annual conclave organized by NELC this year awarded from the region eight members under eight different categories of North East Young Heroes Award 2022 (NEYHA). They are:

Speaking at YLC-8 plenary session Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh spoke on how people from the region should ask what they have contributed to the nation instead of asking what the central government has done for them. “We seldom take into account what we as an individual have contributed to the nation’s building as a citizen, which is a particular mindset we have embedded over the years. This is what I wish to change,” he stressed.
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh and Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khand jointly launched Project NEW’ (NER Entrepreneurs’ World) initiated by the NABFOUNDATION, a not-for-profit arm of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (NABARD) in partnership with Dalmia Bharat Foundation and the North East Leaders Connect (NELC).

Project NEW aimed at developing a unique skill mapping programme for unemployed youths in the entire Northeast states is the first skill mapping database that will record the skill aspirations of the youths of the region. The sessions deliberated on strategies to strengthen the digital infrastructure, improve the technologies available and connectivity.
CM Pema Khandu also the governing member of NELC pointing out the rich natural resources of the region said that Northeast region should play important role in the the India’s goal to achieve the $5 trillion economy.
Panel discussion in the conclave explored the relevance of the region’s emerging and growing market and border trade with neighbouring East Asian countries. The panel discussion of various topics on the region included NELC governing council member and MP Gaurav Gogoi, CM Pema Khandu, CM N. YLC-8 this year is based on four main pillars:
Pillar-1 (Assess the current landscape of growth and development in North East India in the context and the impact unfolded throughout the pandemic).
Pillar-2 (Identify the essential industry areas, the key growth sectors and connect the country, regional and state priorities for employment generation).
Pillar-3 (Explore the role of the states, industries in the North East Region and how to pivot attention and investment into the emerging sectors and intensify economic-cooperation).
Pillar-4 (Recommend a bold set of action plans that will build our strengths and address the gaps).
The Young Leaders Connect-8 conclave was attended by top dignitaries from Manipur and from Northeast region including Manipur’s chief secretary, cabinet ministers, Karma Paljor co-founder and Editor in chief of EastMojo, members of NELC governing council, entrepreneurs, musicians, sports personalities, youths from the state and Northeast region among others.
