Ukhrul: Kachui Timothy Zimik, representing the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), kickstarted his electoral journey by filing his nomination for the upcoming II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency election. The nomination filing took place at the office of the Returning Officer, A Subhash Singh, located at Thoubal DC office on Monday.
Hailing from Sanakeithei village in Ukhrul district, son of the late K Luiraphang Zimik, K Timothy Zimik, a former principal chief commissioner of Income Tax at the Ministry of Finance (Revenue) submitted his nomination for the 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024 as an NPF/NDA representative for the II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

Prior to the nomination filing, a flag hoisting ceremony of the NPF/NDA unfolded at K Timothy Zimik’s residence in Kairang, Imphal East. The event witnessed Minister Awangbow Newmai, also the president of NPF Manipur State Unit, raising the NPF Flag amidst the presence of candidate Timothy Zimik, Minister Khashim Vashum, MLAs Ram Muivah, Leishiyo Keishing, and leaders from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) representing various districts.
Over 1,000 attendees from diverse constituencies, including the valley areas, participated in the flag hoisting ceremony, marking it as the first such event among the candidates vying for both Inner and Outer Manipur Seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing the gathering, Timothy Zimik underscored the significance of grassroots engagement to comprehend the aspirations of the populace. He emphasized the imperative of fostering co-existence among Manipur’s indigenous communities.
“In Manipur, we have five major communities – Meitei, Naga, Kuki, Muslims, and Gorkha – and it’s crucial for us to collaborate, communicate, and engage in dialogues to foster mutual understanding, harmony, and peace,” stated Timothy Zimik during interactions with the media following the flag hoisting ceremony.

Highlighting his primary objective in contesting the Lok Sabha polls, Zimik articulated, “After my retirement, I aimed for a peaceful life. However, upon recognizing prevalent issues encompassing politics, economics, and societal challenges, I felt compelled to contribute positively towards effecting societal changes.”
According to the Election Notice issued on March 20, nomination papers can be submitted by candidates or their proposers to the Returning Officer for No. 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency or to the Assistant Returning Officer at the Office of the Returning Officer in Lamphelpat, Imphal, between 11 am to 3 pm on any non-public holiday before March 27.
