Manipur Police Nabs 2 Arambai Tenggol Involved in Abduction and Assault of 4 Police Personnel

Ukhrul: Manipur Police on Sunday apprehended two miscreants from Arambai Tenggol linked to the abduction and physical assault of four Manipur Police Personnel on May 11, 2024. The arrested individuals, identified as Taibanganba Sanoujam (25) and Moirangthem Bobo (40), are part of an ongoing search operation to capture all involved in the incident.

The four police personnel, traveling from Imphal to Kangpokpi, were seized and held captive at Koirengei along National Highway 2 in Imphal East. Subsequently the four Police personnel were discovered blindfolded and bearing signs of severe physical abuse at Khonghampat. The victims, namely Ram Bahadur Karki, Ramesh Budhathoki, Manoj Khatiwoda, and Md Taj Khan representing diverse communities, including Gorkha and Muslim, received initial medical care at District Hospital Kangpokpi and were later transferred to Kangpokpi Christian Hospital for further treatment.

In response, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) declared a 24-hour shutdown across Kangpokpi starting from Saturday midnight, while the Kuki Students’ Organisation-Sadar Hills condemned the assault.

The Manipur Police has urged the public to disregard rumors and verify any circulating unverified content by contacting the Central Control Room at +91 9233522822, designated as a rumor-free line. Additionally, a plea is alsomade for the return of looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or nearby security forces via the Police Control Room in Manipur.
