The World Meetei Council (WMC) Nagaland State Unit strongly condemns the upcoming event titled “Meetei Kanbada Eikhoi Apunbagi Thoudang,” scheduled for September 28 at the City Convention Centre, Imphal. This program, organized by a group of disgruntled individuals—some of whom were either expelled from WMC or resigned for personal reasons—appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and undermine the efforts of WMC.

Founded on October 1, 2018, to unite the global Meetei community and address the marginalization of the Meetei people, the WMC believes this event is an attempt to promote a counterfeit version of the organization, potentially derailing its legitimate goals, particularly the demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, which is crucial for the community’s survival.

The WMC urges all Meetei individuals, both in India and globally, to reject this gathering and unite in calling for ST status before the 2026 Delimitation. The council also condemns the filing of an FIR by an expelled member against Shri Heigrujam Nabashyam, the respected Chairman of the WMC. The organization expressed shock over the police summons received on September 22, 2024. Shri Nabashyam, as the founder chairman, has dedicated his life to championing the rightful demand for ST status, embodying the hopes and aspirations of the Meetei people.

The WMC also respectfully urges Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to expedite the release of the Ethnographic Report and the latest Socio-Economic Report to ensure the timely fulfillment of their ST demand.

In conclusion, the WMC appeals to all Meetei brothers and sisters to unite in this time of crisis for the state of Manipur.
