Ukhrul: Over the alleged infiltration of 900 trained Kuki militants from Myanmar into Manipur, state security officials ahead of September 28 — the supposed D-Day– have assured the public that no substantiated threat has been identified.

In a joint press release issued by Kuldiep Singh, Security Advisor to Manipur, and Rajiv Singh, Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur, it was clarified that while there were inputs regarding a potential militant infiltration aimed at carrying out attacks on the Meitei community on September 28, thorough verification from multiple sources revealed no concrete evidence to support these claims.

“There is currently no basis to believe in the existence of such an infiltration,” the statement read, stating that despite the lack of evidence, security forces have been placed on high alert to ensure the protection of lives and properties across all communities in Manipur.

The security officials further urged the public to remain calm and not to fall prey to rumours or unverified information that could create unrest. “All communities are assured of their safety, and we advise everyone to refrain from believing in any misleading information,” the press release said.

Meanwhile, the Government of Manipur through DIPR reassured the public on Wednesday that there is no immediate threat of misadventure by armed groups, following intelligence inputs that initially raised concerns.

A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office noted that “intelligence information regarding the movement of over 900 trained and armed militants had been shared with the State Police Department on September 16, 2024, under UO note no. 1/25/2024-CM. This was done to enable the police to utilize their resources and network to assess the situation further and determine the appropriate course of action.”

“It is now ascertained that possibility of any misadventure by armed groups is remote,” the CMO note said, adding that the government has urged the public not to worry or be alarmed.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) had strongly condemned the statements by Manipur’s State Security Advisor, Kuldiep Singh, accusing 900 Kuki militants of infiltrating Manipur with plans to attack the Meitei community. KIM termed the allegations as “baseless and a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation aimed at vilifying the Kuki-Zo community.”
