The press communiqué states:

“For and on behalf of the Tangkhul Naga Long and all its frontal organizations, the following statement is issued for wide publication.

That, we are extremely perturbed by the fact that our sincere and fervent request to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur dated 29 January 2025 to cancel the transfer order of Shmt. Zuringla Kengoo (lAS), Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul District, Manipur is yet to evoke any positive response from the Authority Concerned till now.

We Nagas have found ourselves in perilous situations as sequel to people’s regime taking recourse to brazen subversion of every single democratic principle and spirit. To them, brazen subversion of democratic spirit and principles comes so naturally as a powerful weapon to cover up colossal misgovernance on every single count of the Constitution they proudly swear by and are sworn into.

What is envisioned in the Constitution is a democratic polity and public governance that thrives on compassion, equality and justice. But in contrast, for the tribals and for the Nagas in particular, our share of public governance has been persistently that of arbitrariness, discrimination and injustice.

One such glaring example that is currently raging the ground is the absolute uncalled for manner in which Mrs. Zuringla Kengoo (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul District, Manipur has been ordered to hand over charge within less than 24 hours’ time. The powers that be, you may rest assured that we shall never ever do that, for what is sacred to us is”Do to others what you want them do to you.” Apart from being utterly arbitrary, autocratic and inhuman, your action smacks of typical adversarial design and conspiracy and all this, sadly enough, is being done in the name of democratic public governance. Our resolute demand, most legitimate at that, remains that the transfer order of Mrs. Zuringla Kengoo (lAS), be canceled forthwith solely in public interest and for the sake of humanity.

At this juncture, the least the three MLA’s from Ukhrul and Kamjong should do is to come forward upfront and show solidarity with your people in their moment of anguish and deprivation. Such is the time for you to lead from the front and show the courage of your leadership for the people. Please come forward and take the call in a positive and
forthright manner.”

Meanwhile, the peaceful protest led by the Tangkhul Frontal Organisations has entered its second day. Volunteers continue to block the entrance to the Mini Secretariat Complex in Ukhrul, while another group has blocked access to the Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow, effectively preventing her movement. Volunteers, mostly women from various localities of Ukhrul Headquarters and neighboring villages, are maintaining a 24/7 vigil at the DC Bungalow, taking turns in rotation.

The people of Ukhrul remain hopeful that Chief Minister N. Biren Singh will respond positively to their sincere and urgent appeal.
