Agartala: From grassroots panchayat leaders to independent candidates and local voters, a surge of political switchovers has added strength to the BJP in Tripura. In a span of just one day, over 400 voters from different opposition parties joined the ruling party.
The joining programs were held in Kurti-Kadamtala and Teliamura Assembly constituencies, where a large number of voters, along with independent candidates who had contested in recent elections, formally embraced the BJP. The ruling party claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and development initiatives have been the key driving forces behind this political shift.

In Kadamtala-Kurti, two major joining meetings were organized in Brajendranagar and Satsangam villages. At Booth No. 7 in the Madraji Para area under Brajendranagar Gram Panchayat, 184 voters from 32 families left their previous political affiliations and joined the BJP. Among them were independent candidates Indrajit Das and Sheli Deb Malakar, who had contested the panchayat elections.
The second meeting, held in Ward No. 4 of Satsangam Gram Panchayat, witnessed another 133 voters, including independent panchayat member Parbati Deb and her supporters, aligning with the BJP.
Meanwhile, BJP North District President Kajal Das and Mandal President Bimal Purkayastha welcomed the new members by handing them the party flag. According to Purkayastha, such joining programs will continue in every panchayat under the Kurti-Kadamtala Mandal.

Similarly, in Teliamura, another joining event took place in the tribal-dominated Duski area. State cabinet minister Tinku Roy, local MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, Teliamura Mandal President Achinta Bhattacharjee, MDC Bidyot Debbarma, and other BJP leaders were present at the program. The party claimed that 94 voters from 18 families joined the BJP at this event.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Tinku Roy launched a sharp attack on the CPI(M) and other opposition parties while highlighting the BJP’s development agenda.
