The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized 60 cattle worth Rs 21 lakh from different areas along the international border with Bangladesh.
According to the BSF statement, there is steep incline in smuggling attempts after revocation of lockdown in Meghalaya.
It said the smugglers are continuing their daring bids to cross over the cattle to Bangladesh to compensate the pecuniary losses incurred during the lockdown.
In another incident, one Indian national apprehended at Sonapur Bridge near Umkiang with a truck carrying cattle in a cruel manner and without any valid document, although his accomplice managed to escape from the spot.
Generally, cattle smugglers kept these cattle in thick forest for some time and on an appropriate opportunity, tried to make them cross into Bangladesh taking advantage of vulnerable patches through unfenced Border, the BSF said.
The alert and vigil sentinels are keeping on foiling their attempts time to time.
In view of increasing smuggling attempts the BSF have intensified their vigil and operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent the nefarious design of trans-border criminals, it said.
