Accident Family and Padma Shri Awardee Express Gratitude to Assam Rifles for Intervention

Ukhrul: Wungnaoshamg Vashum, in a recent press release, on behalf of his family, expressed profound gratitude to the 40 Assam Rifles stationed at Shangshak for their swift and life-saving intervention following a road accident on July 27, 2024.

The incident occurred near Gamnom while the family was traveling back to Ukhrul after visiting the Wuyawon at Wuya Kachui in Shingcha. According to Vashum, the Assam Rifles personnel rushed to the accident site, pulling the family members from their vehicle and ensuring their safety. “The AR personnel rushed to the spot and pulled us out from the vehicle to safety. They then evacuated us to their unit hospital at Shangshak and provided medical examination and treatment,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Padma Shri awardee Machihan Sasa has expressed his gratitude to the 35 Assam Rifles for their assistance and for recommending his name for the Padma Shri Award nomination by DIG Headquarters 10 Sector, Somsai.

In a press release on July 30, Machihan Sasa, who received the Padma Shri Award in 2024 for promoting and preserving ancient Tangkhul traditional pottery, stated, “I just wanted to convey my appreciation and heartfelt thanks for all the amazing support from the 35 Assam Rifles and HQ 10 Sector. Their help has made a huge difference for the local artisans.”

“The solar lights they provided have been a game-changer, especially when we work late in the evening. The new pottery shed, washing machine, and chairs have significantly upgraded our setup and made things much easier,” Machihan Sasa said.

“I also want to mention how much I appreciate the letter from the DIG of 10 Sector. It played a significant role in my nomination for the Padma Shri, and I am really grateful for that,” said the Padma Shri from Ukhrul District, leaving his praise for the “dedication shown by Assam Rifles towards supporting our local culture and artisans is incredible. On behalf of all of us in the black pottery community, a big thanks to the Assam Rifles. We are excited to continue working together and growing our skills.”
