Ukhrul, October 13: The media fraternity of Ukhrul district marked an important moment today with the inauguration of the Ukhrul Press Club (UPC) at Wino Tang, Ukhrul. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Sword Vashum, President of Tangkhul Naga Long.

The event witnessed the presence of members of the Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA), along with notable dignitaries including Akui L. Shimray, Deputy General Manager of MSPDCL, Ukhrul and others.

The Ukhrul Press Club is the first of its kind in the district since the establishment of the UDWJA in 1998. Its opening is regarded as a landmark achievement, providing a dedicated space for journalists to collaborate and serve the community more effectively.

During the ceremony, R. Lester Makang, President UDWJA expressed sincere appreciation to individuals whose contributions and encouragement have been pivotal to the realization of the press club. Acknowledged supporters include Khashim Vashum (MLA Chingai), Ningshem Vashum (DIG), Iyiringkon Ramung (Entrepreneur), Garnish Kashung (EE PWD, Ukhrul), Akui L. Shimray (DGM MSPDCL, Ukhrul), Themreishang Marei (EE PHED, Ukhrul), Shanngam Shaliwo (DFO, Senapati), Laishram Gitla (DFO, Ukhrul), Chermishan ASP (FRO, Ukhrul HQ) and Dr. Reisangmi Raikhan (MS District Hospital, Ukhrul).

Speaking on the occasion, the president also stated that the inauguration of the press club signals a new chapter for local journalism, reinforcing the vital role of a free and dynamic press in the district’s development.
