SHILLONG, MAY 8: Commemorating 90 years of service to the nation by All India Radio (1936–2026), Akashvani Tura, in collaboration with Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Tura, organised a walkathon today to celebrate the legacy, milestones and contribution of Akashvani in shaping the country’s broadcasting history.
The walkathon was flagged off by Ferdinand Marak, Assistant Director (Programme), Akashvani Tura, in the presence of T K Marak and Kamal Koch, Programme Executives of DDK Tura.

Nearly 100 participants, including men, women, officials, staff members and their family members from AIR and DDK Tura, took part in the 3.5-km walkathon. The route commenced from Akashvani Tura, proceeded towards Najing Bazar and concluded at the starting point.
Addressing the gathering before the flag-off ceremony, Ferdinand Marak highlighted the historic role of All India Radio in the nation’s development.
“All India Radio is not merely a broadcasting service. It is an institution that has shaped India’s social, cultural and national consciousness,” he said.
Following the walkathon, medals and certificates were distributed to winners and participants in recognition of their involvement in the event.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ida R Marak, Programme Executive, Akashvani Tura, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organisers for making the commemorative event a success.
