Shillong: A worker of the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) was injured after he was allegedly attacked by National People’s Party (NPP) workers at Charbatapara under Phulbari constituency in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya late Tuesday night.

The incident took place at around 10.30 pm at the residence of Nozrul Hoque when NPP workers vandalized the premises after a meeting organized by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party.

Hoque said, “They (NPP workers) came in a group and started attacking and destroying my property, bamboo walls, tables, chairs with logs and stones. They also pelted stones and bricks.”

An FIR has been lodged by one Nozim Hussain of Charbatapara, alleging that one procession led by Habibuz Zaman stopped near his house and pelted stones at his house due to which 4 persons were injured. As per the report of the DEO, the reason for the clash was that while Zaman and his supporters were passing through the village, a few TMC supporters hit their Scorpio vehicle which led to the scuffle.

Meanwhile, the party in a statement had termed the incident as a “shameful and unscathed display of brawniness” by the NPP workers.
