Suspected World War-II bombs found in Manipur

Imphal: Bomb experts of Manipur police on Wednesday detonated two bombs believed to be those from World War II era found at two separate places.

One of the bombs was found while digging earth at a paddy field at Yairipok Loukon under Yairipok police station of Thoubal district today, around 10.30 am, police said.

Upon getting the news of finding of an old bomb, a team of Yairipok police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area before calling out personnel of the state police bomb detection and disposal squad.

The experts retrieved the bomb and detonated at an open place later, the police said.

The second bomb believed to be that of World War II era was found while digging a pond at Keibi village under Sogolmang police station of Imphal East district today.

The bomb was also detonated by bomb experts of the police bomb detection and disposal squad, the police added.
