Shillong: The Tyrso Valley Wildlife Protection Society in collaboration with the Them Tyrso Women Welfare Association will host the Amur Falcon Festival 2021 again this year.
The two-day festival will be held at Umru village on November 12 and 13.

Amur Falcons are migratory birds which make their way from South Africa before they arrive in North East India from Siberia en route to their final destination Somalia, Kenya and South Africa. The little raptors have one of the longest migration routes upto 22, 000 kilometers in a year.
They also flock to Umru and Tyrso village in Ri Bhoi district along their migratory route before they fly to their next destination in Nagaland.
Speaking about the upcoming festival, Tyrso Valley Wildlife Protection Society General Secretary Alos Nongpoh informed that the festival is being held every year with an aim to preserve the small raptors and to create mass awareness against the hunting of these raptors.
He also said that through the mega festival the society also aims to promote the area as one of the state’s tourist spots showcasing the thousands of these birds which flock to these two villages once in a year. He urged people of the state and other tourists to visit and attend the festival and witness these beautiful birds.
