Senapati: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur(ANSAM) urged the government to take “immediate” measures in bringing quality education in government high schools and government higher secondary schools in the hill districts of Manipur.

In a statement on Sunday, the Naga student body said, “Taking serious note of the acute shortages in all the basis and educational infrastructures from the reports of the school authority, the ANSAM would like to seek the attention of the concerned department for opening of honours courses in physics, chemistry, mathematics, geology, MA and M.Sc courses in political science, zoology, botany and opening of new disciplines particularly B.Com, geography, sociology, philosophy, statistics and defense studies in United College Lambung, Chandel, at the earliest possible time,” it urged the concerned authority.

The ANSAM then said that the growing number of students pursuing commerce, geography, sociology and statistics in various feeder schools in Chandel including Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School, St Peter’s Higher Secondary school, Anallon Christian Higher Secondary School, Sugnu and SEMCO Higher School has put tremendous pressures to make avenue of higher studies available.

“From the findings of the ANSAM and reports of the concern authority of Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School that the school is running with shortage of teachers, the ANSAM would like to urge the concerned department of the state government to revert back the posting of Nula Roxson (Hindi Matriculate teacher), Ht Meena (Matriculate teacher) and  Ht. Hmanhring (Matriculate teacher) in Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School,” the statement also said.

The ANSAM also sought the attention of the state government to provide the requirements of subject teachers in high school section and Higher Secondary section of Chakpikarong Higher Secondary school. The ANSAM added, “The post of principal and vice-principal are currently vacant after the principal has retired on February 1, 2023. There is no chowkidar too in Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School. The pucca building of the school with pucca fencing wall is badly required as the present school building is not in good condition and thereby various disadvantages are being faced by the students, the ANSAM would like to urge the state government to give equal importance in the hill based schools and colleges by at least fulfilling basic provision as per UGC guidelines to develop schools in hill districts of Manipur”.
