Senapati: In pursuance to the directive of the United Naga Council (UNC), the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has requested all its constituent units and sub-ordinate bodies to strictly enforce the said directive in their respective jurisdictions.
The ANSAM said that this step is being taken in order to “register our strong resentment against the government of India for prolonged delaying of the Indo-Naga political settlement and frequent backtracking from the historic Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015”. Therefore, the ANSAM said that no students and schools under its jurisdiction should participate in the “ensuing India’s Republic Day celebration on January 26, 2022”.
UNC has announced to call a 6-hour total shutdown in Naga areas in Manipur, and also asked the Naga people under its jurisdiction to abstain from participation in the coming Republic Day celebration.
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) in a meeting on January 21 had resolved to stand in solidarity with UNC’s decision call to boycott Republic Day celebrations since the Government of India has delayed the mutually agreed ‘Framework Agreement’.
TNL in the meeting had also decided that chairmen’s of civil organisations should see that the district and block headquarters take the resolution seriously and implement it, as well as informing Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) should see to it that none of the students participate in any Republic Day celebrations.
