Senapati: In a statement released by the Office of the All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), it stated that ANSAM is dedicated to overseeing and regulating quality education and student welfare throughout the state of Manipur. In alignment with the belief that education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man, the association strives to translate this noble idea into reality. The release stated that their commitment extends beyond a specific community, emphasizing inclusive welfare across the state.
As such, the All Naga Students’ Association of Manipur (ANSAM) expressed genuine gratitude to the State Government for launching the “College Fagathansi Mission” on January 6, 2024. The initiative aims to improve the overall well-being of the higher education sector in Manipur, aligning with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy, 2020. The endeavor is expected to address various shortcomings in college infrastructure, particularly in the hill districts.

However, the release lamented that it is disheartening that the comprehensive well-being of colleges, including faculty shortages, remains unattended. In this context, the ANSAM expressed regret and dissatisfaction regarding the undeclared results of the recruitment process for 190 Assistant Professors (145+45 ST Special Drive), conducted in 2021 vis-à-vis an acute shortage of teaching faculties, especially in the hill colleges. Despite the assurance given through the Memorandum of Agreement signed on October 26, 2023, between the ANSAM and the concerned authorities, including the Chief Secretary and the Education Commissioner, witnessed by the Chief Minister and the Education Minister of the state, the committed result declaration on or before November 2, 2023, has not been fulfilled, the release mentioned.

Thereafter, several rounds of verbal assurances had reportedly been given by the authorities, but no concrete action has been taken up till date. The current government exhibits a concerning disregard for the importance of time, leading to unnecessary delays. Unfulfilled promises and assurances seem to be taken lightly, with issues persisting by citing false narratives rather than coming up with effective resolutions. Additionally, the prolonged and deliberate delay, stated to raise concerns and attributing it to technical issues, is no longer considered justifiable.
The observed lackadaisical approach in the educational sector, as evident in such delayed announcements of the recruitment results for 190 Assistant Professors, is regrettable, it added. It is crucial to recognize that the government functions as a continuous entity and should remain impartial, regardless of legislative interests. Nonetheless, the existing polarization within the government has tangible repercussions on the society’s overall progress and prosperity.

Numerous recruitments are stated to be currently in progress, as indicated by the most recent government notification. However, the present situation is disheartening for individuals who took part in recruitment exams but are still awaiting their results. The delay in announcing results is stated to have caused uncertainty and concerns amongst the candidates, which tantamount deprived of fundamental rights, it mentioned.
The Office of the ANSAM, with deep concern, respectfully urged the government authorities to declare the aforementioned results at the earliest to ensure the best rewarding policies for various teacher shortages colleges in Manipur in the interests of students and the general public as part of the College Fagathansi Mission. Prompt action from the government in this regard will be highly appreciated, it mentioned.
