Anthropic CEO Urges Slower Pace in AI Development

New Delhi (SHABD): Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Saturday called on artificial intelligence firms to slow the development of increasingly powerful AI systems, amid mounting concerns over the risks posed by potentially “super-intelligent” computer systems.

Amodei said, “We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of A.I. models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain.”

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI owner Elon Musk agreed with Amodei’s assessment in posts on X, as pressure grows for stronger AI oversight. Altman also said in an interview that OpenAI would not go public in 2026, citing concerns over AI safety.

Amodei proposed a three-step plan for stronger AI oversight, including independent reviewers within leading AI firms, shared safety standards to prevent unchecked development, and international cooperation to manage AI risks.

His call came after a threat report highlighted the potential misuse of AI in weapons, cyber operations, surveillance and fraud, amid growing concerns that AI could eventually outpace human control.
