UKHRUL: The Kaimai Village Authority under Tousem Sub-Division, Tamenglong district has strongly condemned an early-morning attack allegedly carried out by an “unidentified group” in the area at Tollen Kuki village, describing it as a possible attempt to create disunity and mistrust among communities that have long lived together peacefully.
Sources said the attack took place at around 4 am, during which a mother was reportedly shot dead. Her husband was also hit by bullets and is said to be in serious condition, while their children reportedly sustained bullet injuries.

The Village Authority while condemning Sunday morning’s attack said the incident appeared to be a “deliberate and malicious attempt” to create disharmony, suspicion and division between different communities in the region.
The VA said such acts could be the work of vested interests seeking to sow mistrust between communities for their own motives. It maintained that the incident should not be allowed to damage the trust and goodwill built among neighbouring communities over the years.
The Kaimai VA has appealed to the concerned authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice at the earliest.
It also urged both communities to exercise restraint, patience and maturity and not allow rumours or provocations to escalate tensions.
The VA further called on community leaders, elders and civil society organisations to come forward and reaffirm the bonds of peace and understanding between the communities.

“We, the people of Kaimai Naga village, stand firmly for peace, unity, and communal harmony,” the letter stated, adding that the actions of a few unknown miscreants should not be allowed to undermine the goodwill and brotherhood shared between the communities.
The VA then urged all stakeholders to work together to preserve the peaceful coexistence that has characterised the area and appealed for calm during the sensitive period.
