Arrested alleged fraudster Kangujam Kanarjit brought back to Imphal

A special team of Manipur police on Tuesday brought back alleged fraudster Kangujam Karnajit who was arrested in New Delhi last Sunday.

Karnajit who was arrested by a combined team of Delhi police and Manipur police on Sunday was brought back to Imphal from Delhi in the afternoon after taking transit remand from the Delhi Metropolitan magistrate.

Porompat police station where various cases against him were pending has taken custody of the man. He will be produced in the court of Imphal East district magistrate for further remand, a police source said.

Earlier in April 2016, Imphal East district magistrate had declared Karnajit as an “absconder” in various criminal, forgery and cheating cases lodged in 2015 after he failed to appear in the court despite repeated summon for appearance after he availed bail.

He has been staying in an apartment in New Delhi since he left Manipur in 2016.

The arrest of Kanarjit was made on the basis of a complaint by a student from Nepal who had accused Karnajit of duping him into paying money to his organisation, the International Youth Committee.
