Manipur child climate activist’s father Kangujam Arrested in Delhi

Exactly 22 days after The Frontier Manipur, an investigative news portal in Manipur that speaks truth to power broke the news of Licypriya Kangujam’s father — a fugitive and a conman on May 19, 2021, absconding Kangujam Kanarjit was arrested by a combined team of Delhi and Manipur Police in New Delhi on Monday.

Kangujam Kanarjit who is also known as Dr KK Singh, according to a news report in The Frontier Manipur confirmed of the arrest of Kangujam in Delhi by Special Cell and Manipur police in a joint operation. He fled from Manipur and the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal East had announced Kanarjit as an absconder on April 25, 2016 on criminal case number 37 of 2015 charged under section 406/417/420/427/120-B/120-A/107/34.

The report in The Frontier Manipur said that Kanarjit allegedly forged documents, forged signatures and presented a larger-than-life image of himself. He had collected funds and fees from national and international students in the name of International Youth Committees (IYC) organising youth meets and other seminars, relief for earthquake victims and the list goes on.

The arrested Kangujam Kanarjit aka Dr KK Singh is the father of the 9 year old prominent climate and environmental activist. According to a news report in Impact TV, her father will be produced before a court in Delhi today and that efforts are on to bring him back to Manipur.
