DHEMAJI, AUGUST 10 (SHABD): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to take necessary action following a firing incident at Mingmang Badtia under the Gogamukh Revenue Circle in Dhemaji district along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
A dispute reportedly broke out over alleged encroachment of land in Assam. The situation escalated when miscreants allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, injuring around 11 residents of Assam. Of the injured, seven, whose condition was reportedly critical, were later referred to Dhemaji Civil Hospital for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in Sonapur, Kamrup district, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Chief Secretaries of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh had held discussions to resolve the issue. He said the situation was almost under control and that a minister, the Chief Secretary and the DGP had been deputed to engage with their counterparts.
Dr Sarma described the incident as a localised conflict with no bearing on the two states as a whole. He also said additional security forces had already been deployed in the border areas to maintain peace and law and order.
