UKHRUL, NOV 27: Vijay Shankar Agarwal, a construction contractor from Rajasthan and Bamnye Kammaty, a local Panchayati Raji Institution (PRI) leader are reportedly being held captive by the NSCN-K militants from the Lazu area in Tirap district, Arunachal Pradesh.

According to a police source, “He (Agarwal) was asked to pay 25 lakh, but he kept evading them. After negotiations, they finally agreed to meet for the payment. Instead of accepting the money, they abducted him and the local leader who was assisting him.”

The report added that the ransom amount has now increased to Rs. 2 crore.

The incident underscores the growing crisis in the Tirap, Changlang and Longding region where construction companies, business owners and local officials regularly face kidnapping threats, with victims typically released only after ransom payments are made.
