Acting on specific inputs, a joint team of Assam Rifles and DRI Silchar launched an intelligence-based operation on October 30, 2026, intercepting a suspected narcotics consignment in Dholai Bazar, Cachar district. During the operation, the team apprehended three individuals who were allegedly involved in transporting the contraband.

A detailed search of the consignment led to the recovery of the Crystal Methamphetamine, estimated to carry an international market value of around Rs 40 crore. The seizure marks the first-ever recovery of Crystal Methamphetamine in the region, officials said, calling it a significant blow to organised synthetic drug trafficking networks operating in the area.

According to a preliminary assessment, the consignment had originated in Mizoram and was being routed through Silchar, which is allegedly being used as a transit hub for onward transportation of narcotics toward mainland India.

The three apprehended individuals, along with the recovered contraband, mobile phones and vehicles, have been handed over to DRI Silchar for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Officials said the operation emphasized the effectiveness of precise intelligence gathering, technical surveillance and coordinated action between Assam Rifles and other enforcement agencies in curbing the flow of narcotics through the Northeast into the rest of the country.
