Punanamei, Mao, June 6, 2026: As part of its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development, Asufü Christian Institute (Autonomous), Mao, Punanamei, observed World Environment Day with a large-scale plantation drive conducted under the initiative of its Eco Club on Friday.

World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, serves as a global platform to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues and encourage collective action for the protection and restoration of the natural environment. In keeping with the spirit of the occasion, the institute organised the plantation programme to promote a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment within the campus and its surrounding areas.

The Eco Club of ACI, which actively undertakes initiatives related to environmental sustainability, coordinated the programme with the participation of faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students from all the departments. Demonstrating a shared commitment to environmental stewardship, participants planted local cherry tree saplings across the campus and along the stretch extending up to Kapengho Junction on the Kidima Nagaland Road, covering approximately one kilometre beyond the institute’s boundary.

The observance also included the maintenance and nurturing of trees planted during previous environmental campaigns. Participants engaged in clearing weeds, replenishing manure, cleaning the surroundings, and carrying out other necessary measures to ensure the healthy growth and survival of existing plantations. The activity highlighted the importance of not only planting trees but also providing sustained care to ensure their long-term contribution to the environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Eco Club Convenor Lohrü Adai emphasised that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility that requires the active involvement of every individual. He encouraged students and staff members to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives and to view tree plantation as a long-term commitment rather than a one-day activity. He further stressed that small and consistent efforts by individuals can collectively make a significant impact in preserving the environment for future generations.

The programme concluded with enthusiastic participation from the ACI community, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to environmental awareness, ecological responsibility, and sustainable development. Through such initiatives, Asufü Christian Institute continues to instil environmental consciousness among its students and staff while contributing meaningfully to the creation of a greener and more sustainable future.
