Locked down for over 10 months due to Covid-19 pandemic, preparations are finally underway to reopen Ava Market (women’s market) at Phungreitang in Ukhrul town with effect from February 2.
Chief Executive Officer Autonomous District Council, Ukhrul, Polly Makan, in an order issued Saturday, said that all the sanitary workers of Small Town Committee (STC) department under Ukhrul Autonomous District Council have been instructed to clean up and sanitise the entire premises of Ava Market on 1 February, 2021 to prepare for its reopening.
The facility would be re-opened with effect from 2 February, 2021 by following the SOP laid down by the Government, in the interest of the vendors and the public, the order continued.
It informed that maintenance of a distance of 2 meters and wearing of face mask have been made mandatory for re-operation of the market which was closed down since March 2020 due to the pandemic.
The ADC order came in the wake of a directive issued by the Deputy Commissioner/Chairman District Level Committee Women’s Market (DLC-WM) on 29 January, 2021, instructing the ADC’s CEO cum Secretary, Ava Market Management Committee (AMMC) to make necessary arrangements for its reopening at the earliest.
It may be recalled that Manipur’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh instructed the district administration and the police department for re-opening of the market during his visit to Ukhrul on January 21 last.
