UKHRUL: Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi was on Monday sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, representing Manipur. She was administered the oath by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan at Parliament House in New Delhi. Sharda Devi took the oath in Manipuri.
Sharda Devi was elected unopposed to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Manipur earlier this month after no other candidate remained in the fray following the withdrawal of nominations. She succeeds Leishemba Sanajaoba, whose six-year term in the Upper House ended this month.

Sharda Devi, who is the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur unit, was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha after filing her nomination as the NDA candidate on June 8. She received her certificate of election on June 11.
Sharda Devi was among eight newly elected and re-elected members from Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan who took oath in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
