UKHRUL: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) on Monday alleged that security personnel used excessive force against unarmed Naga women protesters at Thonglang along IT Road in Kangpokpi district on June 28 and demanded accountability over the incident.
In a statement, ANSAM alleged that personnel of the CRPF and Kangpokpi Police, under the command of SDPO Lalboi Lunkim, opened fire on women protesters and demolished a traditional Naga village gate using a JCB during the agitation. The students’ body also claimed that fired bullets were recovered from the protest site the following morning. The allegations could not be independently verified.
The protesters were demonstrating in support of the demand for justice for the six Naga men who were killed earlier this month.

ANSAM said the government’s failure to bring those responsible to justice had eroded public confidence and contributed to the continuing unrest. It reiterated that the economic blockade in Naga areas, launched under the United Naga Council’s Charter of Demand, would continue until justice is delivered.
The students’ body urged the government to conduct a swift investigation into the killings, prosecute those responsible, implement the UNC Charter of Demand, and ensure that peaceful protesters are not subjected to excessive force.
It further said that, until the demands are addressed, security personnel should respect the ongoing agitation and refrain from entering Naga villages without the consent of the respective village authorities, saying the measure was necessary to prevent further escalation.
ANSAM maintained that the Naga people’s demand is for justice and accountability and said it would continue to support the movement until those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
