Imphal: An irate mob set fire to a Gypsy vehicle belonging to the Imphal East Police at Moirangkhom in Imphal on Wednesday evening. The vehicle, which was registered under the SDPO Tejbir of Porompat Police Station, was burned down, and a 9mm pistol, allotted to driver, was also reportedly snatched away by the mob during the incident.
Earlier, protestors targeted the residence of the BJP Manipur Pradesh president, Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, around 8 PM. The police intervened, leading to a confrontation. A Sarda was evacuated to safety, but the irate mob set fire to the police vehicle during the altercation.

Local residents of Moirangkhom joined the protests in solidarity with the agitation against the kidnapping and killing of the two Meitei students.
Protesters blocked roads in various areas of Imphal West and Imphal East districts. To disperse the crowds, the police and Rapid Action Force used tear gas and mock bombs. However, the protests continued to spread across different parts of Imphal, including Moirangkhom, Yaishkul, Singjamei, Kakwa Road, Uripok, Sagolband, Thangmeiband, New Checkon, Hatta, Palace Compound, and Khurai.
Protesters also stormed the Imphal West District Collector’s Office late at night and set fire to two vehicles parked within the office premises. Agitators also torched Thoubal BJP office at Khongjom on Wednesday evening.
An elderly man identified as Shamurailatpam Brajamani ( 97) sustained injury after being scratched by a stray bullet on Wednesday evening at Keishampat Keisham Leikai (locality). The stray bullet scratched Brajamani’s back while he was washing his hands after dinner. The bullet is believed to have been fired during a widespread disturbance or agitation that occurred in the area. The stray bullet penetrated the tin roofing sheet of his house and hit him. Brajamani was rushed to RIMS for medical attention. His family has filed a complaint at Imphal Police Station.
