AGARTALA: Having entered the TTAADC General Election 2026 with the stated aim of carrying “the lotus to every household” across all 28 constituencies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday found itself reduced to four seats as TIPRA Motha Party swept 24, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and state leaders offering measured acceptance of a verdict that allegedly exposed the party’s deep erosion in Tripura’s tribal heartland.
Polling had taken place on April 12 across 28 constituencies, recording an overall turnout of 83.52 per cent. Of the 8,04,667 valid votes counted, TIPRA Motha polled 4,57,943 against the BJP’s 2,18,072, a gap that left little room for doubt about the scale of the defeat.
Dr. Saha, who had personally helmed the party’s campaign push, extended gratitude to the party’s karyakartas while acknowledging the result without deflection.
“While we accept the people’s mandate with humility, we see this as an opportunity to learn and come back stronger,” he said, adding that carrying the message of the lotus to every household remained “a proud achievement” despite the outcome.

Pradesh BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee echoed the same tone, saying the party accepts the people’s verdict with humility and congratulating both its winning candidates and TIPRA Motha on their success. He described the result as “an important opportunity for self-criticism” and said the party remained determined to carry Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development message to every household with renewed dedication.
However, Power and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath was direct. The people’s verdict is supreme, he said, and it is everyone’s duty to accept it without question. He also appealed for calm, indicating that the results, whatever they may be, should be accepted peacefully and without any resort to unrest or disturbance.
Meanwhile, the sharpest assessment came from former BJP state president Ronajoy Kumar Deb, who offered no diplomatic cushioning. “BJP has lost terribly in the ADC general elections,” he said.
The TTAADC, which administers nearly 70 per cent of Tripura’s geographical area and represents around 14 lakh tribal residents, will now be governed by TIPRA Motha for another term.
