Bomb blast in Ukhrul: 3 injured

Ukhrul: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations in Ukhrul Headquarters, a bomb blast occurred at around 5:15 PM at Gandhi Circle/Community circle on Wednesday evening.

Updated News | Four civilians injured in bomb explosion in Ukhrul

The blast is suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) planted inside the Gandhi statue platform, a popular landmark in Ukhrul town. Nearby parked cars are reported to be damaged from the blast.

Sources said, the loud explosion was heard as far as in Wino Bazaar, a locality 2 kilometers away from the Gandhi circle.

Three persons sustained minor injuries, including a middle aged woman from the splinters of the blast. Sources told this reporter that the injured were rushed to hospital.

The site of the blast has been cordoned off by Ukhrul Police and Assam Rifles. Further update awaited.
