BSF Jawan from Manipur, Deepak Chingakham, Martyred in Cross-Border Firing in Jammu

Ukhrul, May 12: Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham of 7 Battalion BSF, from Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai in Imphal East, was martyred after sustaining critical injuries in cross-border firing by Pakistan along the International Boundary in RS Pura, Jammu on the night of May 9 and 10 during Operation Sindoor. He succumbed to his injuries on May 11. His mortal remains will arrive at Imphal International Airport at around 1:10 PM tomorrow via Indigo Flight 6E 5118. A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the airport before the remains are taken to his hometown for the final rites with full Force Honour. The 25-year-old jawan was hailed as a “brave-heart” by the BSF, which paid tribute to his supreme sacrifice

Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Deeply saddened by the martyrdom of BSF Braveheart Constable Deepak Chingakham, who sustained fatal injuries during cross border firing from Pakistan and laid down his life in the line of duty. He was a proud son of Manipur, and as a Manipuri-Meitei, his courage and devotion to the nation reflect the unwavering commitment of our people to protect and serve.”

Singh further saluted the armed forces for their relentless bravery and assured full support to the bereaved family. “We stand with the family of Constable Deepak in this difficult time. His sacrifice will always be remembered with honour and pride,” he added.

The Border Security Force (BSF) Jammu Frontier also confirmed the incident, writing on X, “We salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF brave heart Constable Deepak Chimngakham in the service of the nation; he sustained fatal injuries during cross-border firing along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, District Jammu on 10 May 2025, and attained martyrdom on 11 May 2025. DG BSF and all ranks express their deepest condolences to his family.”

Officials from the BSF informed that a wreath-laying ceremony with full honours will be held on May 12 at the Frontier Headquarters in Paloura, Jammu, where fellow soldiers and top officers will pay their last respects.

Sanajaoba Leishemba, the titular King of Manipur and Rajya Sabha MP, also mourned the loss. In his tribute, he wrote, “Salute to the supreme sacrifice made by BSF Braveheart Jawan Deepak Chingakham of Yairipok Yambem, Manipur in the service of the nation.”
