UKHRUL, June 5: The Border Security Force (BSF) Mizoram and Cachar Frontier observed World Environment Day on Friday with a massive tree plantation campaign across its area of responsibility, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The plantation drives were conducted at the Frontier Headquarters in Masimpur, Assam, as well as at all Sector Headquarters, battalions, and Border Out Posts located in remote and border areas across Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland.
According to a statement issued by the BSF and made available to Ukhrul Times, BSF personnel, along with their family members, took part in the plantation campaign by planting saplings of various indigenous species across multiple locations. The drive also drew participation from local community leaders and school students, reflecting broader community support for environmental conservation efforts.

At the Frontier Headquarters in Masimpur, the programme was led by Ravi Kant, IPS, Inspector General of BSF Mizoram and Cachar Frontier. Officers, personnel and their families, including children, joined the plantation drive, underscoring a collective commitment to environmental protection.
Addressing participants, Ravi Kant stressed the importance of preserving the environment and described every tree planted as an investment in a healthier and more sustainable future. He encouraged BSF personnel to continue contributing towards environmental conservation through regular plantation activities and environmentally responsible practices.
The plantation campaign was organised with the objective of increasing green cover, promoting ecological balance and raising awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship.
The BSF stated that the initiative reflects the force’s continued commitment to fostering a greener, cleaner and healthier future while complementing its primary role of safeguarding the nation’s borders.
Besides border management duties, the BSF regularly undertakes social and environmental initiatives. The enthusiastic participation of Seema Praharis across the Mizoram and Cachar Frontier on World Environment Day highlighted the force’s commitment to nation-building and environmental sustainability, the statement added.
