BSF recovers hidden Arms/Ammunition in Meghalaya

The Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered cache of arms and ammunition hidden allegedly by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA)  in a forest at South Garo Hills district, according to BSF.

Acting on specific information, BSF troops conducted a search operation in a forest near Chegnigre village under Rongra police station on Thursday, it said.

One revolver (USA made 0.32 mm caliber), 50 Nos of 7.62 mm rounds and 4 Nos Iron Magazine (supposed to be AK SVD Airsoft Sniper Rifles) were recovered from the area.

“The GNLA has hidden arms at various places in Garo Hills which they use mainly for extortion purposes and other illegal activities,” it also stated.

The seized revolver, ammunition and magazine are handed over to police station Rongra for further necessary action.

Sh Hardeep Singh, IG of BSF, Meghalaya Frontier said that, “Our network is at place to unearth such more cache of arms and ammunition which are hidden by banned outfits in remote jungle areas and we hope that in future more such successful operations will be conducted,” he said. He also said that BSF is successfully performing multifarious duties which includes guarding the International Border, creating a sense of security among border population and their upliftment besides dealing with insurgent groups and foiling their nefarious designs.
