BSF seizes betelnut worth Rs 24 lakh

Shillong: Acting on specific tip-off, BSF and Meghalaya Police seized more than 11000 kg of dried betel nuts worth Rs 24 lakh which was being smuggled to India from neighbouring Bangladesh on Saturday.

According to the BSF, the joint operation was carried out in the general area of Dampukaphal under Rongra Police Station in South Garo Hills.  The betel nuts were being carried in 3 trucks when intercepted and confiscated by BSF, although, drivers of these vehicles managed to escape from the spot.

The PRO of BSF (Meghalaya) applauded the Meghalaya Police for their active participation in the joint operation, and said such operations will continue in future also with an aim to have a crime free international border.
